FIREFIGHTERS used specialist cutting equipment to remove the roof of a car to rescue a trapped person following a two-vehicle collision which resulted in the M6 near Warrington being closed for around two hours this morning.
The northbound carriageway was closed off between junction 19 for Knutsford and Manchester and junction 20 for the M56 Warrington following the collision just after 8:10 am, causing lengthy congestion of more than five miles.
Three fire crews attended at the scene from Lymm, Northwich and Greater Manchester.
A car overturned and Paramedics requested the roof of the vehicle to be removed to allow them access to the casualty.
Firefighters safely using specialist cutting equipment removed the casualty and handed them into the care of the ambulance service.
The motorway was reopened at around 10:15am.
The incident resulted in long delays with around 5.5 miles of congestion, causing 45 minute delays on journey times.
