A travellers encampment given permission to stay on the former car park of the historic Raven Inn pub at Glazebury is now under planning enforcement investigation.
Apart from a brief departure around February 8/9 the encampment of four vehicles has been on the car park since January 20.
Although the site owners have given temporary permission for the encampment to remain on-site, Under The Town & County Planning Act, land is not allowed to be used for more than 28 days, in any calendar year, for a purpose outside the permitted use.
As a result the Save the Raven Inn campaign group lodged an official complaint with Warrington Borough Council.
Temporary toilets have been provided at the site following health concerns after reports locally of human excrement on the car park.
A Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: “We originally received reports of an unauthorised encampment of four caravans at the former Raven Inn, Warrington Road, Glazebury. The Cheshire and Warrington Traveller team has supplied toilets to mitigate concerns about COVID safety and hygiene at the site. Private land owners are responsible for securing their sites, however, the team are in contact with the owners to offer advice and support.
“There is currently an open planning enforcement investigation into this matter so we are unable to provide any further comment at this time.”
