POLICE have issued a warning following a spike in cycle thefts in the Birchwood area of Warrington in recent weeks.

The pedal cycle thefts have all centred around locations near to Birchwood Shopping Centre and Birchwood High School.

Whilst individual thefts are investigated, police will be taking measures to tackle the spate of thefts as a whole.

Local PCSO Stefan Titans said: “I will be holding bike marking events for local residents and those who regularly cycle to school/work in the area next week. I will post times/dates and locations in due course.

“I urge cyclists to ensure bikes are securely locked, if possible using a D-lock and explore options for leaving bikes in a secure location where possible.

“I urge anyone who witnesses activity that may be related to this to contact 101, or 999 if there is a crime in progress.”
