TWO young men from Warrington were among more than 300 young people from across the country who travelled to the House of Commons for a special meeting of the Youth Parliament.
It was only the second time in ever that a group of non-MPs have held a debate in the famous chamber.
Ryan Barnes, YMP for Warrington North and Tom Jennings, deputy YMP for Warrington South were involved in the special assembly, with Ryan contributing to a debate on university tuition fees and Tom delivering the closing speech thanking Speaker John Bercow and other MPs for their support of the event.
Five issues were discussed and voted on.
They were:
1. Should sex and relationships education be compulsory from primary school onwards? For: 211, Against: 104.
2. Should university tuition fees rise? For: 57, Against: 267.
3. Should the school leaving age be raised to 18 immediately in order to lower youth unemployment? For: 56, Against: 271.
4. Should we withdraw all British troops from Afghanistan by 2012? For: 137, Against: 179.
