FIRE crews attended a three-vehicle collision on the M6 at Woolston following reports of a person trapped in a smoking vehicle.
The collision took place M6 southbound Woolston interchange between junctions 21 and 20 shortly before 4pm yesterday.
Fire engines from Birchwood, Warrington and one from Altrincham attended at the scene.
On arrival, they found one person was trapped in a car that had been involved in a three-vehicle collision.
After being assessed the casualty was able to remove themselves from the smoking car and was handed into the care of the ambulance service.
Firefighters then made the scene safe.
At the same time fire crews from Penketh, Runcorn and Widnes were attending a two-vehicle collision M56 eastbound between junction 12 and junction 11 near Runcorn.
The two-vehicle collision left two people trapped in one of the vehicles. The car was pinned against a fence so firefighters used specialist tools to enable the people to get out through the boot.
They then moved the car to a safer position and ensured both vehicles were safe before leaving the scene after around 40 minutes.
