LABOUR won a seat on Burtonwood & Westbrook Parish Council in a by-election on Thursday night – by one vote!
Labour’s Brian Morgan-Scrutton won the By-election for a Westbrook seat, after a hard-fought campaign that saw an independent candidate push the Tories into third place.
The final vote tallies were as follows:
CURNOW, Claire Louise, Independent 246
MORGAN-SCRUTTON, Brian Charles, Labour Party Candidate 247 ELECTED
MURRAY, Theresa-Jane, The Conservative Party Candidate 194
(Turnout 19.25%)
Commenting on his victory Brian Morgan-Scrutton said: “Thank you to everyone who has voted for me. Every vote really counted! Living in Westbrook, I really do understand what matters to our community. Parish councils are part of the grass-roots of our communities and we’ve heard many people on the doorstep tell us how they feel local issues are often overshadowed by national and local politics.
“But I’ll do my best to represent everyone — Parish Councils are about getting things done for our residents! I would also like to thank everyone who supported me with my campaign. This was truly my Campaign, not a campaign co-ordinated by a big party machine.
“I want to finish with a quote from Harvey Milk who was a civil and human rights leader, and was the first openly gay elected official in the US.
‘Hope will never be silent!’ Now the hard work begins!”
