POLICE are investigating after a large fire was started in woodland close to the now-closed Fiddler’s Ferry power station site at Cuerdley, near Warrington.
The blaze involved a large quantity of logs and other timber and firefighters believe it was started deliberately.
It was reported by a passerby who used the What3Words app to pinpoint the fire yesterday (Sunday) afternoon at around 4:20pm.
Due to the location, in a wooded area, firefighters from Penketh had to make their way on foot to reach the scene, taking specialist firefighting equipment with them.
The site was close to a railway line and the Mersey.
