Residents oppose hotel expansion plan

A CONTROVERSIAL application for permission to build a leisure centre and additional bedrooms at a top hotel has been submitted to Warrington planning chiefs.
The scheme to expand the Lymm Hotel, in Whitbarrow Road, Lymm is the latest in a series going back some 15 years.
It was last due to be heard three weeks ago but was deferred for further negotiations between the applicants and planning bosses.
It is opposed by a residents group and by Lymm Parish Council, as well as Coun Ian Marks, leader of the borough council.
Borough and parish councillor Sheila Woodyatt has also expressed concern over the proposal.
The plans include a swimming pool, gymnasium, conference and business facilities and 29 additional bedrooms.
Existing bedrooms would also be renovated.
Objectors fear over-development of the site, parking problems, inadequate sewage facilities and environmental issues. They are also concerned about the scale of
development, and problems cause by deliveries, traffic noise, the building design and loss of trees.
The Lymm Hotel hit the headlines in 1966 when it hosted the Brazilian World Cup team including soccer legend Pele.

  1. This is exactly the sort of development that Lymm needs, will help to secure the financial viability of a local employer, and provide leisure facilities which are not available to the same standard anywhere else in the village. It’s right at the bottom of my garden – but it gets a thumbs up from non-NIMBY me!

  2. Would have thought the same.. ie that new facilities such as a swimming pool, gymnasium, conference and business facilities would have been welcomed in Lymm. It’s not a change of use and The hotel is already there anyway so making it better would surely bring in more people….. and those people would probably even use the other local shops etc which are always looking for ways to bring in more trade to the area.

  3. Absolutely support the concerns of the NIMBYS in lymm, knock the thing down and build one of the tin shack health centers we have to put up with in the rest of warrington, see how they like that.

whats up mr Marks is it a bit close to home for your liking, seems development is only good when its outside your area, such as Walton Gardens.
