WARRINGTON GP Dr. Laura Mount and the team at Central & West Warrington Primary Care Network received praise from Prime Minister Boris Johnson at his Downing Street press conference.
Dr. Mount, a GP Partner at Folly Lane Medical Centre and the Central and West Warrington Primary Care Network where she is Clinical Director, were praised for their efforts organising pop-up vaccination clinics for the homeless.
Warrington South MP Andy Carter tweeted: “Fantastic to hear the PM recognising the amazing work Dr Mount and the team in Warrington this evening during his press conference. Well done and thank you.”
Dr. Mount gave the first Covid-19 vaccination in Warrington to retired GP Phillip Leech last December.
With the Prime Minister urging people to get their booster jabs in the fight against the Omicron Varient Professor Chris Whitty, England’s chief medical officer, warned the UK was facing “a really serious threat” from the Omicron variant of COVID-19, which is “moving at an absolutely phenomenal pace”.
Also speaking at the Downing Street press conference, he warned the UK was facing “a really serious threat” from the new coronavirus variant as the UK recorded its highest ever number of daily COVID cases since the start of the pandemic, with 78,610 new infections.
Prof Whitty warned that daily COVID-19 case records “will be broken a lot over the next few weeks as the rates continue to go up”.
He also warned these would translate into “big numbers” being treated in hospital in the coming weeks.
“I’m afraid there will be an increasing number of Omicron patients going into the NHS, going into hospital, going into intensive care,” he said.
“The exact ratios we don’t yet know, but there will be substantial numbers and that will begin to become apparent, in my view, fairly soon after Christmas.”
