Residents' anger over tip lorries

ANGRY residents, backed by local councillors, kept an early morning vigil outside Warrington’s giant Arpley landfill site.
At 7.15am they counted more than 20 heavy lorries queuing to gain access to the site – with more arriving all the time.
All had come along Liverpool Road – and all were from Merseyside.
The Waste Recycling Group (WRG), who operate the site, are seeking planning consent to carry on tipping for another 12 years until 2025.
But residents, borough councillors for the area and members of Great Sankey Parish Council are united in their opposition.
They are angry because the company will not consider bringing waste into the site by rail or canal, even though they have outline planning consent for a railhead.
They want to continue using 40 tonne wagons to import the waste along Liverpool Road.
Liberal Democrat councillor Jim Regan said: “Residents have put up with noise, vibration, dirt and smells from these juggernauts for over 20 years,
“They are looking forward to the day when this misery ends in 2013. Any extension of this operation will be a slap in the faces of these residents who have had enough and have continually said so.
“I and my fellow councillors will do all we can to support the residents in a campaign to prevent this from happening.”
The company says bringing the waste in by rail or canal would not be viable.
