FORMER Lymm Rugby Club youngsters Alex Mitchell made a try-scoring debut for England during their victory over Tonga at Twickenham on Saturday – much to the delight of well-wishers from his former club.

Mitchell, the former Lymm Colt and current Northampton Saints scrum half, was selected in the squad alongside veteran Ben Youngs.

He came on with 16 minutes to go thereby winning his first full cap for England and even scored a debut try in the final minute of the game.

Lymm Rugby Club spokesperson Simon Plumb said: “This was a wonderful moment for him, his family and Lymm Rugby Club!!”

Alex played for Lymm Minis and Juniors from the age of five, up to the age of eighteen and is the second player in Lymm, after Dave Strettle, to be fully capped by England.

“Let’s hope it is the first of many,” added Simon.
