TWO new programmes will allow Warrington Town Football Club to employ up to 40 full time sport apprentices for the new season.
Apprentices will receive a weekly salary and combine study for qualifications and sports training over a three day week.
There are two programmes, The Football Education Programme and The Sport For All Programme. Schemes are open to males and females aged 16 to 18 and will be run by Luis Michael Training.
The football programme will help young people progress initially towards a standard for semi-professional football.
The club sees it as an opportunity for late developers or young players who have been at professional clubs but missed out on a scholarship. It allows youngsters to work over the season to develop skills through training sessions and matches. It will be led by former full time professional footballers.
The club in partnership with Luis Michael have sourced match funding for the scheme to help young people develop in sports and gain qualifications.
Manager Joey Dunn (pictured right) said: “It is an excellent opportunity for a club like ours to run such a project, with our on-site facilities. It allows us to try and develop and train young footballers and give them an insight and experience of the level to aspire to. We are also delighted to have ex-professionals running the coaching side of the programme that have experience at this level.”
The sport programme will help young people work towards a range of multi-sporting qualifications. It will offer the chance to learn new skills for a range of sports and fitness training.
Joey Dunn said: “The Sport for All programme is also an excellent project and opportunity for a club like ours to be involved in. It will help youngsters develop and learn new skills, whilst working towards sporting qualifications. We recognise not everyone is interested in football but we believe we will be inundated for places on both schemes.”
An enrolment day will be held at the club on Monday September 6 between 2pm and 3pm, and 6pm and 7pm.
Anyone interested in any of the above exciting programmes should contact 07817 914622 or email [email protected] There are a limited number of places available.
