Sexual violence support packs available in Cheshire

POLICE and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer has highlighted specialist support packs available to survivors of sexual abuse, detailing the help available and the reporting options.

The Survivor Support Packs, designed to guide victims through the legal and emotional process of dealing with sexual abuse, have been produced by the North West Strategic Direction for Sexual Assault and Abuse Services Partner Network (SAAS).
The network is a collaboration between Police and Crime Commissioners, the NHS and sexual assault and abuse services from across the North West. It launched via www.sexualviolencesupport.co.uk earlier this year, and the website operates as a digital directory for survivors of domestic abuse across the region.
Mr Dwyer, Police and Crime Commissioner for Cheshire, said: “Sexual violence is abhorrent and it’s important for victims to know what help and support is available to them, their families and friends.
“These packs have all the information you will need to help you through the process of reporting sexual abuse, including an outline of the process from ‘report to court’ as well as self-care options and tips on how to support others affected by sexual abuse.”
Following the launch of the packs earlier this year, 7,000 have now been distributed in Cheshire and include further information from Cheshire Constabulary, the Police and Crime Commissioner, St Mary’s Sexual Assault Referral Centre and the Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Centre (RASASC).
Mr Dwyer added: “The packs have been distributed to GP practices, health clinics and police stations across the county; all significant locations where we believe survivors will seek help and support. The University of Chester and the British Transport Police also have packs available.”
Becky Williams, Sexual Violence Communications and Engagement Manager for the SAAS said: “It is hoped that these packs will make it easier for survivors of sexual violence to come forward and speak out. The packs contain key information which highlight support and reporting options available across Cheshire.”
