Plan to convert bungalow to respite facility for vulnerable people

PLANS have been submitted to change the use of a dormer bungalow at Great Sankey from residential to a respite facility for people with learning difficulties.

The scheme in Cronulla Drive also includes replacing existing extensions to the rear and side with single storey extensions.

A report to be considered by borough council planners indicates that the property is a three-bedroom dormer bungalow which is believed to have been unoccupied for more than a year and is in a poor state of repair.
The building is said to be poorly laid out with a large number or room on the ground floor which had no specific purpose. Overall the property is in a poor state of repair externally and internally, with many dated fixctures and fittings.
It is proposed to convert it to a six bed facility, with five beds assessible to wheelchair users with no permanent tenancies. Bookings would be made on a hightly/weekly basis – sometimes many months in advance to allow families to plan.
Staff would be on site 24-hours a day whenever the building was occupied
All rooms would be fully furnished to a high standard and there would be a kitchen and dining room and living area for communal use. A rear garden would be provided for residents’ use.
