Traffic speeds worry residents

RESIDENTS of a picturesque lane at Croft are worried about the speed and amount of traffic passing their homes.
As a result, highways chiefs have applied to the Traffic Commissioners for permission to make Dam Lane “access only.”
Householders fear there could be a serious accident involving homeowners backing out of their drives.
There are only 15 residents of Dam Lane – and all attended a public meeting called to discuss the problem.
Coun Les Hoyle said: “A number of options were considered, including no entry signs, a one-way system and access only.
“The borough council has considered them all and believes the access only option is the most likely to succeed.
“A lot of problems are caused by people travelling to and from work at British Nuclear Fuels and other employers in the area.
“There have been a number of confrontations between residents and motorists.
A survey has shown there are 280 vehicles travelling daily in each direction along a very narrow lane with no footpaths.
“The Traffic Commissioners can turn down the request, but we are hope they will agree to it.”
