ARMED raiders got away with a large quantity of vodka from a Warrington industrial estate after attacking a security guard.
A warehouse was emptied of a substantial quantity of vodka and it believed the offenders used heavy lorries.
Five curtain sides HGV’s are missing from the site in Clayton Road, Birchwood.
The raid is believed to have taken place sometime between 1am and 4am on Saturday morning.
Police were called to the site at about 5.45am on Saturday and found a security guard had been attacked by four men armed with knives.
They are anxious to hear from anyone who has been offered vodka. The liquor stolen includes the brands for Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Co-operative, Royal Czar, Imperial and Moskova Vodka – all in 1.5 or 1 litre bottles.
Vehicles missing from the depot are five container trailers bearing the numbers CFT 148/GTS301, CFT96, CFT165, CFT172 and 5853C53. Three have blue curtains and two green.
Police believe the offence may have been planned over a period of time. They are appealing for information from members of the public who may have seen people acting suspiciously in the area of Melbury Park, Clayton Road, Birchwood in the days and weeks preceding the incident or anyone who may have seen someone acting suspiciously prior to the crime being committed during the early hours of Saturday morning.
The security guard was taken to hospital and was badly shaken by the incident but not seriously injured.
Detectives at Warrington are also appealing for information concerning the missing trailers. The public are asked to contact the police should they see any of the trailers.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 0845 458 0000 or alternatively information can be left on the Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
