FIRE crews were called out twice last night to tackle fires in the open at Penketh and Old Hall.

The first incident was shortly after 7.20 pm when one fire engine from Penketh was called out to tackle a rubbish fire in Farnworth Road, which was well alight.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used fog spray to extinguish the flames.
Then shortly before 10.30 pm one crew from Warrington was called following reports of a fire in the open on Shackleton Close, Old Hall.
On arrival, the crew found that the fire had spread to a nearby fence.
One hose reel jet was used to extinguish the flames.
