A WARRINGTON college deputy principal says he is “stunned” by the fantastic results obtained by students.
Deputy principal at Priestley College Matthew Grant was speaking about the provisional results for BTEC National Diploma and Certificate programmes.
With only a few results still to come in, BTEC National students at Priestley have beaten all records. With nearly 800 grades awarded, students have achieved more than 60 per cent at distinction level, which is equivalent to a grade A at A Level.
The college offers certificate programmes worth two A Levels and Diploma programmes which are worth three, and many students have obtained either double or triple distinctions.
In the full Diplomas in Art, 14 students obtained a triple distinction, in Child Care 15 students achieved the triple, Graphics with 10 and there were a further 11 in ICT, 12 in Performing Arts, 32 in Sport and 11 in Public Services.
Many of the BTEC students will be hoping to add at least one A Level to their achievements when those results are published tomorrow (Thursday).
Mr Grant said: “Once again our BTEC students have surpassed all expectations and demonstrated why Priestley continues to be the area’s leading provider of Level Three academic and vocational qualifications.”
Among those succeeding is Natalie Cheung (left) who started at the college to study a BTEC National Diploma in Art and Design alongside other AS subjects, later focusing and eventually accepting a place at the London School of Fashion to study Fashion Design.
Student Jodie Standish (top, right) chose the BTEC National Diploma programme in Performing Arts, obtaining a triple distinction and departed for a place at the prestigious LABAN Dance School in London.
A triple distinction was also obtained by Anthony Walker (bottom, right) on his BTEC National Diploma in Sports Development, Coaching and Fitness. During his time at the college he toured Australia with the St Helens Academy team and went on to a sports development programme at John Moores University.
