LOCAL leisure provider LiveWire is getting on its bike to support Stage Five of the Tour of Britain 2021 that will be finishing in front of Warrington’s Golden Gates next Thursday, September 9.

It’s the first time Warrington has served as a host town for the annual event – and as well as promoting Warrington as a great place to enjoy cycling, it is the perfect opportunity to highlight the many physical and mental benefits that getting on a bike can bring.

To celebrate Tour’s arrival in town, LiveWire is holding a ‘500metre Cycling Challenge’ on the day at leisure sites.
A decorated bike will be in the reception areas at Birchwood Tennis & Leisure Complex, Broomfields Leisure Centre, Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub, Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub and Woolston Neighbourhood Hub.
Members can pay £1 to complete the 500m as fast as they can. Everyone who takes part will be entered into a draw with one winner per site selected at random to receive a free month’s membership. All money raised will be donated to a local charity.
The 500metre challenge is also being held at the event village site at the Golden Gates in the town centre for the public at the LiveWire stand, which will also be hosting family activities, lifestyles services and membership information.
LiveWire’s bike-based leisure offer ranges from state-of-the-art stationary bikes in the gym to its hugely popular Group Cycle classes, which sees participants perform a combination of sprints and uphill endurance to burn calories, increase fitness and build stamina.
In 2019 LiveWire also launched a free community bike repair scheme, which aimed to build community cohesion, promote cycling as a form of getting active and to reduce anti-social behaviour.
Emma Hutchinson, Managing Director of LiveWire, said: “The Tour of Britain coming to Warrington is going to be a really fantastic day for the town, and everyone at LiveWire is really looking forward to it. We hope our customers visiting our leisure sites on the day will be inspired by the elite riders in the event and have a go at our 500metre bike challenge. We hope it will be a lot of fun as well as raising some money for a great cause that will help local people.”
