A BENEFIT cheat at Warrington, who falsely claimed nearly £8,000 has been ordered to re-pay the money.
Sapphire Astley, 23, formerly of Brighton St, Warrington failed to declare she had her partner living with her between December 2007 and August 2009.
She was overpaid income support of £4,862, housing benefit of £2,516 and council tax benefit of £605, a total of £7,983.
After pleading guilty at Warrington Magistrates Court, Astley was sentenced to a four month curfew and will be tagged between the hours of 8pm and 7am.
She must also repay the overpayments plus £100 costs.
After the hearing, Adrian Webster, the borough council’s benefits manager, said: “Deliberately withholding information that affects your claim is stealing. That’s why we are targeting benefit thieves. We’re closing in on benefit thieves with every means at our disposal.”
