Seven fire crews tackle large blaze at industrial building off Thelwall Lane

UPDATED: SEVEN fire crews were called out shortly before 6 am this morning to tackle a large, ongoing blaze at an industrial building off Thelwall Lane, Warrington.

One casualty was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation following a large fire involving a paper shredding machine in an industrial building near Edgewater Park.



Seven fire engines in attendance, one from Warrington, one Lymm, two from Penketh, one from Birchwood, one from Widnes and one from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service attended at the scene.
On arrival, the crews found a large fire involving a paper shredding machine in an industrial building measuring around 100 metres by 100 metres.
Firefighters, wearing breathing apparatus, initially used two hose reel jets to tackle the fire and isolated the electrics at the scene.
The crews have now split the building into three sectors and are continuing to use breathing apparatus, hose reel jets and main jets to fight the fire.
Firefighters are also using a thermal imaging camera to monitor the temperature of the building.
Update 11..45am -Crews continued to damp down hotspot areas.
The main seat of the fire is believed to be extinguished and crews are continuing to monitor for hotspots.
The engines have reduced to three and an investigation into the cause of the fire has commenced.
Update 12.55 pm: Firefighters continue to cool down hotspots and monitor their temperature with a thermal imaging camera.
The incident is being reduced to one fire engine, which will continue to monitor temperatures and cool down hotspots.
