Upbeat contest for wannabe stars

POLICE in Warrington are urging youngsters to make some noise as they launch a competition for wannabe singers and groups.
Youngsters, aged 11 to 18, can enter and have the chance to be a rock star for a day. The prize includes a session in a recording studio, airtime on selected radio stations in Cheshire, and photographic and design time for an album cover.
Cheshire Police are inviting youngsters to write, perform and record a three minute song based on one of the Upbeat topics, which can be found online at www.upbeat.uk.com
This can be as part of a band, solo singer or group. Songs must be original and all entries will be available to view on the Cheshire Police YouTube page.
The competition is aimed at highlighting a new website for young people and teenagers in Cheshire. It provides advice on policing-related matters and issues that affect young people. The website uses a variety of interactive features such as videos and online magazines.
Upbeat also talks about up to date topics, ensuring the site is consistent with stories currently in the media.
Police say the performance can be uploaded to YouTube. They ask youngsters to email the link to their video at [email protected]
Applicants have until August 16 to enter, and there is no limit to the numbers of bands/groups who apply from any one school. Applicants can enter as many times as they want.
It will be judged by a police representative, a studio producer and three young people.
