Make sure you can vote

EVERY household in Warrington will soon receive a form to make sure they are on the electoral register.
The forms will start going out before the end of July and by August 9 every household in the borough should have received on.
Each year the borough council is required by law to canvass every household in the borough and produce a register of electors which is then published on December 1.
Although the qualifying date is October 15, residents are urged to complete their registration well before that date to avoid a knock on the door by one of the council’s electoral registration canvassers.
Alison Hughes, electoral services manager said: “Registering to vote is vitally important. As well as not being able to vote, people who are not on the register of electors could find their credit rating is affected, meaning that they may be unable to get a bank account, a mortgage, a credit card or sign up for a mobile phone.”
The council is making it as easy as possible to register. Households where they are no changes can register by using the 24 hour freephone telephone service 0808 161 7649, or texting 80212, or registering online at www.registerbyinternet.com/warrington.
Both the phone and internet systems also allow users to add or remove their names from the edited version of the register used by mailing companies, and to request postal vote applications.
Anyone who has not received a form by August 10 should 01925 442184.
After the register has been published, people can still apply to be added, for example if they move house. They should call 01925 442184 or email [email protected] to request a form.
