Fletcher hits 81 – but it’s not enough to save Warrington

IN form Jonathan Fletcher hit 81 –but it was not enough to earn victory for Warrington in their RSK Cheshire County League game at Macclesfield.
Warrington were all out for 209 and the home side reached their target with three wickets to spare. Fletcher got good support from Jake Liddle, 31 and there were useful innings from Harley Barratt and Patrick Tyrell, who each scored 26.
Liddle took 3-64 and Rohan Luthra 2-35 and Macclesfield had to fight for their runs and eventually reached their target with only two balls to spare.
Warrington 2nd took on Timperley at Walton Lea and toiled in the sun as the visitors hit a formidable 291-7. Warrington used seven bowlers but could not stem the flow of runs.
Opener David Baxter hit 45, James Lewis 33 and Viraj Vyas 30 but the home side were never seriously in the hunt and finished on 168-6 to claim a draw.
Grappenhall, back in action after missing two weeks due to COVID restrictions affecting their opponents, lost by 47 runs at Sale.
The home side batted first and were all out for 241 in their last over. Sam Guest took 4-53 for Grappers while Adam Roylance and Lewis Porter took two wickets each. Grappenhall’s former county players Grant Hodnett and Richard Green hit 57 and 48 not out respectively but the side were all out for 194 in the final over.A home to Sale, Grappenhall 2ndlost by 10 wickets.Grappers could only muster 147-8 in 50 overs, despite opener Steve Rooney’s well-struck 64.Sale’s openers ran amok to hit off the runs without loss.
Grappenhall 3rd completed a miserable weekend for the club by losing against Didsbury, who batted first and hit 175-7. David Seed took 3-32. Grappenhall were bowled out for 140, Tom Clarke 35 and Lewis Porter 46.
In the UKFast Cheshire League, Lymm Oughtrington Park lost a keenly contested game at Weaverham.The home side batted first and were all out for 176. Mohammed Bhola took 4-41 and Travis Scholes 3-31 for LymmThe visitors got off to a bad start and at 58-7 looked to be heading for a humiliation. But Scholes, 67 and Bhola, 24, steadied the ship. Even so, the target proved beyond reach and Lymm finished on 159 –17 runs short.Lymm Oughtrington Park 2nd won by 10 runs after an exciting encounter with Haslington at Oughtrington Lane.
Asked to bat first, Lymm hammered 228-4 in 40 overs. Astrayo Daw hit 69, Josh Donley 47 not out and Alex Kelly 42. Haslington replied with 218-4.
Appleton went down by a massive 169 at Bunbury.The home side hit 254-2 with the Appleton bowlers struggling in the heat. Appleton were then rolled over for 85, Chris Morrison top-scoring with 27
Appleton 2nd turned the tables, however, with a fine 125-run victory over Bunbury 2nd.Put in first, Appleton hit 241-7. The visitors were then bowled out for 116.
Appleton 4th won handsomely against Frodsham, veteran David Hurst rolling back the years to hit 101, Tom Humphries 50 and Alex Wright 49 not out as they totalled 233-5.
Frodsham were all out for 181, Alex Wright taking 3-27.Glazebury lost at Wistaston Village after the home side had batted first and hit 171-7. David Nicholson was the pick of the Glazebury bowlers with 5-30.Glazebury were bowled out for 112, Jack Warhurst top scoring with 31.
