A CAMPAIGN calling for an end to human trafficking was backed by the Mayor of Warrington Coun John Joyce.
The campaign, launched in Golden Square shopping centre, saw people queuing to sign its petition.
The initiative of charity group ECPAT – End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and the Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes – the petition will be presented to Parliament.
Shoppers and staff from all over the shopping centre were encouraged to sign.
A spokeswoman said: “It’s believed that at any given time in the UK 4,000 vulnerable people are being exploited as a result of human trafficking. We’re so pleased that so many shoppers have got behind this campaign.
“Every year thousands of vulnerable people are smuggled into this country and forced into manual labour and sex work. We’re here today to show the government that people from across Warrington want this to stop.”
Centre marketing manager Ian Cox said: “It’s a wonderful cause that needs highlighting all over the world. We’ve been delighted and surprised by the level of support shown by the people of Warrington.
