Fire station opens
BIRCHWOOD Fire Station is opening its doors to the public today with demonstrations of the wide range of services that the Fire and Rescue Service provide. Modern and vintage fire engines will be on show and there will be attractions for children such as face-painting and go-karts.

Hospital lottery
WINNING numbers in the weekly lottery run by the League of Friends of Warrington hospital were 2, 6, 7 and 15 – but no-one won the jackpot prize which will be rolled-over to next week. A £25 consolation prize was won by a member of hospital staff.

Danger trees
EMERGENCY work costing £300 to dangerous trees was approved by Stockton Heath Parish Council. Members heard a broken branch on an ash tree and a dead oak tree, both near Burnside Road, had been removed.

Play scheme
A THREE-week summer play scheme run by Warrington Borough Council will start at The Quays Community Centre, Thelwall on Monday (July 26).

Christmas lights
APPLETON Parish Council has agreed to purchase an additional 200 lamps for the Christmas lights on the Holly Tree at Broomfields Sheltered Housing scheme at a cost of £295, with a connection charge of £85.

Vandals strike
VANDALS struck at the Barley Road playing field, Thelwall when a safety surface was ripped up. Grappenhall and Thelwall Parish Council have authorised urgent repairs.
