Town back on track

WARRINGTON Town travelled to Long Lane to take on local outfit Moore United, looking to get back to winning ways after the earlier disappointing defeat to St Helens and despite a battling performance by the hosts, eventually ran out 4-0 winners.
Town began the game the brightest and striker John Bathurst was first to go close, heading wide of the target from within the six yard box. Town were in control of the game, but couldn’t find a way past some resolute defending and some fine goalkeeping from the home side, Salmon, Gahgan and Corrigan all going close.
Town eventually found a way through shortly before half time, when Salmon glanced home a corner from Louis Corrigan.
The second half started as the first half ended, with Town in control, and it wasn’t long before Town went further ahead when last season’s top scorer Chris Gahgan got his first goal of his pre season, finding the bottom corner with a fine angled drive. The home side did have a chance to get back in the game, after they were awarded a somewhat soft penalty, however, Moore’s spot kick went well wide of the target. Town were once again back in control of the game, and were soon three goals up, whenChris Gahgan latched onto a long range deflected shot to beat the Moore keeper and find the bottom corner of the net.
The introduction of all four substitutes slightly disrupted the flow of the Town attack, but shortly before the end, Salmon produced his second goal of the night, collecting the ball outside the box, before turning the defender and firing past the keeper and into the corner of the net.
Town: Connett, Duffy, Ness (Kennedy), Hardwick, Tomlinson (c), Finley (Rutter), Corrigan, Farrelly (Anderson), Salmon, Bathurst (Thompson), Gahgan
