TRAVELLERS who were given temporary permission to remain on Silver Lane ay Risley due to ongoing health issues, now face legal action if they don’t vacate the area.

Warrington Borough Council, who gave the temporary permission, have now served a Section 77 Notice and if the encampment fail to comply an application will be made to the courts for possession.

Local residents expressed dismay over the weekend when some of the travellers appeared to leave Silver Lane, later arriving at the Asda car park at Birchwood, before vacating and returning to Risley.
Members of Culcheth and Glazebury Parish Council, Croft Parish Council and Birchwood Town Council have all expressed concern at continuing problems on Silver Lane, Risley, by groups of travellers.
The latest group involving five caravans, arrived on-site at the end of May and remained on-site for more than a month, due to ongoing health issues.
Cllr Keith Bland, chairman of Croft Parish Council and a member of Culcheth and Glazebury, said: “This is an issue that has been dragging on for years and it isn’t going to be solved until the borough council finds an
official site where travellers can stay.”
A Warrington Borough Council spokesperson said: “The current encampment located on Silver Lane has recently been visited by the Sub Regional Traveller team and a Section 77 notice has been issued.
If the encampment fails to comply with this notice an application will be made to the courts for possession.”
