A National This Girl Can Programme is being launched in Warrington, tomorrow, Tuesday, July 6.

The Sport England initiative, in partnership with The National Lottery and Disney offers a range of benefits for both physical health and will be launched at the Roy Humphreys centre, (LNSC), a charity established since the 1990s.
It is being led by Amanda Gillespite who said: “It’s really exciting to have this project for Warrington and it has come at the time Lockdown restrictions are starting to ease. Being active and connected offers a range of benefits for both physical health. As the restrictions of the pandemic start to ease, it’s important that all of the community workers and services are doing everything possible to help improve health and well-being outcomes, as the pandemic as been a difficult time for all.
“I have selected some champions to support the project in the community, well-being and Disney aspect and we have champions who completed the last This Girl Can project in Warrington in 2016, that I helped to run when I worked jointly with Warrington Council and Livewire.
This Girl Can is a programme for women aged 18 years old and over. It aims to tell real stories of real women. It’s for women regardless of shape, ability and size.
The project has received support from Warrington Borough Council, Warrington Disability Partnership, Torus, Warrington Voluntary Action, sports and exercise, mental health professionals and services and many more.
Amanda added: “I have started an initiative on Twitter to Get Warrington Moving. It ties in well with an existing initiative from Get Warrington talking. There are some great conversations and joint up work from a range of community workers and services and sport professionals. Join the conversations at #getwarrmoving and #getwarrtalking.
“The project is aimed at Warrington residents however we are having people engage from other areas and welcome all. Priority for the Free physical activities and wrap-around lifestyle and well-being support will be given to Warrington residents who will benefit enormously from being involved in the project. The project is inclusive and there will be a range of activities and posts for all.”
The sign up for the physical aspect and the support of the project will be tomorrow, Tuesday 6th July: 1-4pm at The Roy Humphreys Centre, 86 Sandy Lane, Longford, Warrington Wa2 9AU. If people can’t attend they can email Amanda: [email protected] or speak to their community workers who will be able to advise or get in touch on their behalf.
