THE row over borough council proposals for the development of Walton Hall as a luxury hotel rumbles on
Strong objections were voiced at a meeting of Stockton Heath Parish Council.
Members agreed to support Walton Parish Council in its objection to any loss of public amenity, and to work with other parish councils in South Warrington to oppose development.
Proposals by luxury hotel chain Contessa involve converting the hall into a hotel and conference facility, converting the heritage centre into a pub and using some of the land for hotel grounds.
Coun Helen Dutton said: “I don’t like the idea of a pub in the heritage centre, the idea appals me.”
She said that if Contessa developed the hall as a hotel, they would probably want some of the grounds.
Chairman of Walton Parish Council Yousuf Shaikh told members that 40 residents attended a meeting in June to oppose the development.
Residents were concerned about loss of amenity at the hall and lack of public consultation.

SH PC Members have now ‘agreed’ to support Walton PC and work with other parish councils to oppose the development ???? Had it not ocurred to them to stand on their ‘own groups’ feet before now or can’t they work as a team without outside input and guidance?? Maybe the co-opted parish councillor and twice failed borough councillor Cllr Helen Dutton should also have taken a prior interest viewed the draft plans then she wouldn’t have used the word ‘probably’ when refering to areas of the grounds which ARE being taken by Contessa !! Am I being harsh… NOPE 🙂
