Bar loses 3am opening battle

AN appeal by a town centre bar at Warrington for permission to stay open until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays has been thrown out by a planning inspector.
The Mojo Bar and Grill in Cairo Street had appealed against the borough council’s decision to refuse permission to extend opening hours until 3am at weekends and 1am on other days.
The Government-appointed inspector who dealt with the appeal has ruled that the extension of hours would significant increase the period when noise would be experienced by people living close to the site and that this would be harmful to their living conditions.
He said Cairo Street was in a quieter part of the town centre which had less CCTV coverage and was in a cul de sac less suited to police patrols.
The proposal would increase late night activity and the potential for violent and other incident to occur, which would also harm living conditions
Andy Farrall, the borough council’s director of environment and regeneration said the inspector’s decision supported the council’s stance on protecting living conditions and reducing the potential for crime.
