Council blitz on potholes

A COUNCIL blitz on residential roads in the Bewsey and Whitecross area of Warrington resulted in 323 potholes being repaired in seven weeks.
The work, which equated to 705 sq metres of road, was carried out as part of the council’s “Look of the Borough” programme which targets specific areas in turn.
A team consisting of a residential environmental improvement team, an enhanced gully cleansing team and a pothole repair team, carried out the work.
A total of 4,818 carriageway and 895 footpath gullies were cleansed as a result of requests from residents and workforce inspections which would not otherwise have been done.
Seven environment improvement schemes were also completed at Saxon Park, Old Liverpool Road, Towers Court, Priestley Street, Hodgkinson Avenue, Summerfield Avenue and Sankey Valley Park.
Residents and local councillors were consulted.
Areas which have now been dealt with under the Look of the Borough programme include Birchwood, Poulton North, Poulton South, Woolston, Culcheth and Glazebury, Croft, Rixton-with-Glazebrook, Poplars and Hulme, Orford, Fairfield and Howley and Bewsey and Whitecross.
Work is continuing on Great Sankey and Penketh and will carry on across the borough until January 2012.

  1. Why do residents need to be consulted on what should be standard procedure?

Don’t we pay to have potholes fixed? Let’s have more action and less paperwork. Looks like we have too many pen pushers.
