Dispute over conservation area house

0

A PLAN to demolish a house in a conservation area and replace it with two detached houses is being recommended for approval by Warrington planners.
But 12 objections have been received from nearby residents and the leader of the borough council, Coun Ian Marks, has also objected.
The scheme in Eagle Brow, Lymm is to be considered by the council’s planning sub-committee.
Objectors claim the development, which would involve the demolition of 27 Eagle Brow, would damage the Eagle Brow Conservation Area, rob houses in Church Road of privacy and spoil one of the best examples of Victorian architecture in Lymm.
They are also concerned at the loss of valuable trees.
Coun Marks said the scheme would have a detrimental effect on the conservation area because of loss of views and increased density of building. He is also concerned about access onto Eagle Brow where cars frequently park in the street.
But planning officers say the proposals will “positively enhance” the character and appearance of the conservation area.
They say the house to be demolished is an unremarkable building which neither enhance nor preserves the character of the conservation area.
