New Job Centre planned to cope with “unprecedented demand” on benefits system

THE Department for Work and Pensions is planning to open a new Job Centre Plus in Warrington to help deal with anticipated unprecedented demand on the Benefits system arising from Covid-19.

A planning application has been submitted to Warrington Borough Council for permission to change the use of parts of three floors of Tannery Court, in Tanners Lane, Warrington.
The parts of the building involved are currently vacant but have previously been used for offices.

The Department has requested that the council deal with the application as quickly as possible.
As part of the application, the Department says it is expected there will be a significant demand for DWP services in the Warrington area.
But the new office is just one of a number of new “appointment only” Job Centres planned across the country.
The scheme has been logged as a Government Critical Project with the Infrastructure Projects Authority.
“We are attempting to open the new offices as quickly as possible to ensure we are ready to help people when they need us.
“We hope you will assist us in accelerating the Planning Approval process to assist us in achieving this.”
The new Job Centre Plus will occupy parts of the ground, first and second floors.
DWP chiefs believe the site is in an ideal location, close to public transport links.
