STOCKTON Heath Methodist Theatre Workshop celebrates its 25th birthday today – with two concerts at the church hall.
The Theatre Workshop is the junior section of Stockton Heath Methodist Players, who recently celebrated their own 6oth anniversary, and its members are aged 7-18.
There’s always a waiting list for membership which shows its enduring popularity.
The first play produced was The Silver Sword, which is about a group of children during World War 2, and other big productions have been Bugsy Malone, Gel, Our Day Out, Oliver and Alice in Wonderland.
Each year the group puts on two productions – and has featured a number of well-known names. Playwright Simon firth directed a production of The Relucant Dragon and Holly Quin-Ankrah, who has appeared on TV in Waterloo Road, spent some years with the group.
The leaders are all members of the church and although priority on the waiting list is given to children and young people who are also connected with the church, membership is open to all.
Former members have been invited back to today’s concerts to join in singing some of the songs from previous shows.
The shows are at 3pm and 7pm and tomorrow (Sunday) there will lbe a special church service celebrating not just 25 years of Theatre Workshop but also 60 years of the adult dramatic society too.
