WARRINGTON Rylands received a heroes return as they brought the first national footballing trophy home to Warrington.

Family friends and fans gathered at the club’s Gorsey Lane Ground on Sunday afternoon as the players and club officials returned with the FA Vase after winning the thrilling Wembley final 3-2 against Binfield, cheered on by their 1,500 supporters.

The victory came just four days after confirmation of the club’s promotion to the Northern Premier League West Division – step four of the non-league pyramid – just three years after they left the step seven Cheshire League.
Speaking after the victory manager David McNabb said “I didn’t even hear the final whistle, I just saw people running around. I didn’t really know what was going on, and then it just sort of clicked.
“I feel pride. Just pure pride. The players deserve all the credit.”
Commenting on hat-trick hero Elliott Nevitt he said: “Elliott is a fantastic player, he’s a great lad, he’s so down-to-earth, he’s such a nice kid. He’s a massive part of the group and the way we play.
“We can’t think that because we’ve won this today that next season will be easy because it won’t be.
“We’re playing against some massive teams who are steeped in history in non-league and we’re just starting out.
“We are ambitious, we want to go and try to win things, but that will be the toughest challenge yet starting in August.”
The hard work for the season has already begun and a pre-season friendly has been lined up at Garswood United on Saturday July 10.

Dreams do come true as Rylands take next step on journey
