MP hits out over swimming cuts

A WARRINGTON MP has slammed the Government for cutting free swimming lessons while spending millions on special advisers.
The criticism came from Warrington North MP Helen Jones (pictured).
She attacked the town’s Lib Dem-Conservatove coalition for not standing up against the Government’s plan to scrap free swimming for under 16’s and pensioners.
The MP said: “This scheme was much trumpeted by our Lib Dem-Tory council when it was introduced. Labour introduced the scheme to help improve people’s health and in particular tackle problems of obesity.
“Axing the scheme is simply a false economy as the cost in terms of treating health problems will be greater at the end of the day. I challenge the council to stand up for the scheme they were so keen to promote just a few short weeks ago.”
Ms Jones contrasted the decision with that of the Government’s to agree contracts for politically-appointed advisers that will cost the taxpayer £4,087,924 over the lifetime of this Parliament.

  1. I agree with her sentiments, but perhaps she should have been complaining when her party were throwing money around as if it was going out of fashion.

  2. “A Warrington MP has slammed the Government”………….what took her so long? She only had to change one word from her regular “A Warrington MP has slammed the Council”
