THIRTY new homes are to be built on the site of a former pub at Penketh, Warrington.

The dwellings will be built on the site of the former Penketh Tavern, in Greystone Road, Penketh by Warrington Housing Association.
Residents – who must be aged 55 or over – will be able to move in by April next year.

Niki Stockton, director of operations for Warrington Housing Association said: “Our decision to provide new homes for the over 55’s was based on the local housing need – the development is within an established thriving community and is close to a range of shopping, leisure and health service facilities as well as great transport links.
“This high-quality development reflects Warrington Housing Association’s commitment to continue our substantial investment in the borough to help make Warrington a great place to live, in which the potential of individuals and communities can be realised.
“The development also supports the National Housing Federation’s campaign to put #HomesAtTheHeart of the nation’s recovery from the pandemic as everyone deserves a safe, secure, comfortable place to call home.
“This development is proof that supported by Homes England, smaller housing associations can build new homes and play their part in tackling the housing crisis as well as potentially boost local employment and supply opportunities.”
The development consists of 30 one and two-bed apartments and has been made possible by substantial financial investment by the association as well as £1,320,000 grant funding from Homes England.
A spokesperson for Homes England added: “Despite the current challenges affecting the country, accelerating housebuilding remains our number one priority.
“We’re delighted that this funding will enable Warrington Housing Association to deliver much-needed new homes in Warrington.”
Kingsmead Construction Ltd has been chosen to carry out the building work and their managing director, Craig McKibbin, added: “We are delighted to be working with Warrington Housing Association to deliver this high-quality new development in a fantastic location which will also help to sustain the local community.”
