Warning over sneak thieves

POLICE at Warrington are warning homeowners to be on their guard, after an elderly couple were targeted by sneak burglars.
The two con men posing as water board officials, and claiming that they needed to check the couple’s water supply, entered their home on Shakespeare Grove, Warrington. Once inside, one of the men distracted the couple, while the other rifled through drawers and cupboards, stealing cash, before leaving.
A police spokesman said: “Criminals like this prey on the good nature of people and can come across as very believable. Remember if in doubt, do not let anyone you don’t know enter your house.
“Ask for ID, as any genuine utility company worker will gladly provide it, and will wait for you to be satisfied.”
If anyone was in the area of Shakespeare Grove around lunchtime on Wednesday and saw anyone acting suspiciously police ask them to call them on 0845 458 0000 or alternatively the confidential Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
