Student film-makers score with BBC

SHORT films made by two talented TV production students at Warrington have scored with the BBC.
The films by Joanna Jaworska and James Moorhead, from Warrington’s North West Media Centre at the Fearnhead campus of Chester University have won them a BBC work placement that puts them at the very heart of the action.
The pair were among 11 from the North West short-listed to take part in the BBC Student Challenge: World Cup Memories.
They impressed the judges and the pair beat the opposition to lift the title prize – a placement with BBC Sport during the World Cup.
Third year James, aged 24, who combines his course with graphic design, said: “I thoroughly enjoy experimenting and incorporating the two forms of media into my work, which is why I chose to study this degree course.
“For my World Cup Memories film I decided I wanted to learn something new so I gambled a little and used the concept of an animated talking football which relived its World Cup memories from 1958 to the present day.
“I am absolutely delighted to have been chosen for a placement as my ambition after university is to work for BBC Sport.”
MA student Joanna, aged 25, is also over the moon at gaining a placement with the BBC.
“As I enjoy comedy I thought I would film re-enactments of familiar World Cup moments in my film,” she said.
“Coming from a scientific background, studying pharmacology as an undergraduate, I have found the MA to be challenging but extremely useful and rewarding. Although I had no media experience before starting the course I have thoroughly enjoyed all aspects of it.
“I’m really looking forward to my BBC placement as I love sport, especially football, and it’s a fantastic opportunity to work for such a highly respected and dynamic organisation.”
Wayne O’Brien, senior lecturer in TV production, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for James and Joanna. The fact that we have a really positive relationship with the BBC can only pay dividends, not only to the students but to the kudos of the University too.
“TV Production in particular had had some really excellent results with regards to our partnership with the BBC over the last few months and we hope to continue the trend.”
