Rescue charity is commended

A WARRINGTON-based charity has been commended by the Chief Constable of Cheshire in recognition of its contribution to policing “through outstanding team work.”
The award has been presented to Cheshire Search and Rescue Team – six years after the team was set up.
Members say they are “incredibly proud” of their award.
Cheshire Search and Rescue Team was established in 2004 after a local teenager went missing in suspicious circumstances.
It was realised during the search for the teenager that Warrington needed a search and rescue team and an appeal attracted 24 volunteers whose common aim was to serve the Warrington community.
Cheshire Police became aware of the team and asked that it cover the whole of Cheshire.
By May 2005 the team had passed the assessments requested by the Association of Lowland Search and Rescue to become a fully active search team.
Since then the team has grown to one of more than 40 active members, and will now travel into the Merseyside and Greater Manchester areas, as well as Cheshire, to help when needed.
