WARRINGTON-born jazz singer Ailsa is to make her home town debut – more than 20 years after launching her professional career.
She is to appear at a “jazz gourmet” evening at Shelly’s restaurant, Bold Street, on Saturday, June 19.
Ailsa, (pictured) whose repertoire covers a wide range of music from the Great American songbook through to Amy Winehouse, is back living in Warrington for the first time in 20 years.
During her time away she has established an enviable reputation in Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, the United States and Europe.
Before that she sang regularly in London after completing her studies at drama school.
She said: “I am a trained actress as well as a singer so my original aim was a career in theatre.
“But things worked out differently and I ended up singing in clubs and concert halls and the work kept me abroad for almost 20 years.
“When I was working in the UK, the nearest I got to Warrington was Manchester.
“It will be strange performing in my home town – particularly as I am not well known here.
“I am grateful for the chance of singing at Shelly’s – it is a small, intimate restaurant so I will have to be careful about what I choose to sing. Bit I think there will be a good atmosphere and I am really looking forward to it.”
Among the songs likely to be in Ailsa’s programme are “Come Rain, Come Shine”, “The Man That Got Away”and “What are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?”
