Mayor names his charity of the year

NEW Mayor of Warrington Coun John Joyce has chosen Warrington Grassroots as his main charitable cause.
The fund, managed by Warrington Council for Voluntary Service (CVS), provides small grants to community groups. Since its launch in September 2008 it has already issued more than £150,000 in grants.
The Mayor (pictured) hopes to publicise the scheme during his year and make groups aware of the fund and that match-funding is available – meaning that every pound raised will be doubled by Government.
CVS chief executive Nigel Bacon said: “Warrington is full of small groups and individuals who work tirelessly to tackle local problems and Warrington Grassroots supports their efforts.
“Many more community groups can benefit, and we are delighted to have the support of Mayor John Joyce in the final year of the match-funding being available.”
