A WEEK of celebrations marked the opening of a new £1.5 million extension at Oughtrington Primary School, Lymm
During the past nine months work has been completed on four new classrooms, a large hall, group room, new pond and an outside play area for reception children.
A school spokesperson said: “This will give the school the teaching and learning spaces that they need as the school numbers have grown substantially.”
A creative week themed on Alice in Wonderland, linking with literacy, arts topics and the Cheshire location, was held to celebrate the opening, ending with an official ceremony and open evening.
During the week an artist visited the school to help create a large mosaic made from recycled materials to be hung in the corridor which joins the old building to the new. Parents and people with links to the school were among the invited guests.
On the day of the opening, performed by Lord Daresbury, the children went to school in fancy dress as characters from Alice in Wonderland, and there was a celebration assembly.
After the ceremony there was a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party with entertainment by the school’s Circus Skills Club, school orchestra, and other themed “Alice” entertainment.
