Council invests more than £15m in parks and green spaces in five years

MORE than £15 million has been invested in Warrington’s parks and green spaces over the last five years.

This level of investment by the borough council, confirmed at the most recent Scrutiny Committee, demonstrates the council’s commitment to creating high-quality parks and green spaces that people in Warrington and beyond can enjoy.
Investment has focused on supporting local community parks and ensuring that there are well-maintained green spaces in neighbourhoods and areas where they are most needed.
This has led to widespread improvement and refurbishment of many of Warrington’s parks and playgrounds, alongside introducing new facilities in some areas, such as outdoor gyms.
There has also been substantial investment made in some of Warrington’s flagship spaces, such as Walton Hall and Gardens, Victoria Park and Bank Park.
Warrington Borough Council’s Cabinet member for leisure and community, Cllr Tony Higgins, said: “I am extremely proud of the level of investment we continue to make in our parks and green spaces. This year due to the pandemic we have seen more people than ever make use of these fantastic assets and it is a priority to ensure that our community spaces can continue to be enjoyed.
“We have balanced investing in parks and playgrounds in neighbourhood areas that local communities can use, alongside investing in facilities that will attract high footfall from across the borough. This approach means we can ensure that as many of our residents as possible can enjoy them.
“Our strategy for parks and open spaces supports our aims and ambitions for a healthy and happy Warrington. We know there are more parks that we can improve for our communities, but this level of investment demonstrates that this remains a priority for us to continue building upon.”
