Work on Dallam pumping station to reduce risk of flooding almost complete

WORK on a project to help reduce the risk of flooding incidents in Orford and Longford is now substantially complete.

The £477,000 project, which started last July, involved the demolition of the existing drainage system outfall into Dallam Brook and the construction of a new pumping station.
Three specially manufactured pumps have now been installed to assist with the discharge of water from the drainage system into Dallam Brook.
The pumps are now going through a final setting up and testing phase, which is expected to be completed over the next week.
Warrington Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for highways, transportation and public realm, Cllr Hans Mundry, said “We know how much distress the repeated flooding events in this area have caused to local residents. This has been further impacted by the climate emergency, which is leading to an increase in storms and flooding to roads and properties, the impact of which we have very much seen recently.
“We are doing everything we can to minimise the risk of flooding, but funding in this area is extremely limited. That’s why partnership work is so important. I’m delighted that, working in collaboration with United Utilities, the Environment Agency and the community, we were able to secure the funding to deliver this important project.
“It’s great news that work on the new pumping station is now almost complete. It will make a huge difference to Orford and Longford residents – particularly those who live in the Densham Avenue, Gough Avenue and Northway areas – by reducing the risk of flooding incidents”
Funding for the project is being provided by Warrington Borough Council (£100,000), United Utilities (£177,000) and the Environment Agency (£235,000).
