YOUNG people in Warrington are being invited to attend a special event – that aims to teach new skills and break down cultural barriers.
The Northern Culture Festival takes place on Saturday June 5 between 11am and 3pm at two sites in Warrington – Great Sankey Leisure Centre and Broomfields Leisure Centre.
The event is aimed at young people across the Northern area, which includes Warrington, Widnes and Runcorn and there will be a variety of activities on offer at each site.
Youngsters are being encouraged to come along on the day and try out a new activity for free.
The event has been organised by Cheshire Police – supported by a number of partners in the local community including the Safer Warrington Partnership, the Warrington Wolves Foundation and Connexions.
Police Community Support Officer Kath Harkin, who covers Warrington, said: “The is the first Northern Culture Festival and we hope it will be a big success. This exciting event will bring police and partners together with young people from across Warrington and Halton.
“The aim of the event is to engage with young people and introduce them to a wide rage of activities that they can get involved in in their local community as well as helping to break down cultural barriers.
“By showing young people that there is a wealth of activities out there for them to get involved in where they can learn new skills and meet new people we hope that it will have a positive effect and will help to increase their confidence and self-esteem.
“It will also provide a platform for young people to meet local police officers and officials and forge links with them.”
The activities on offer will include 3v3 soccer – with a Dj, Freestyler – at Great Sankey Leisure Centre, which is being supported by Warrington Peace Centre and other partners.
At Broomfields Leisure Centre there will be a football competition and culture workshops, which are being organised by local community groups.
PCSO Harkin added: “The success of the event will depend on the number of people who attend on the day so we would encourage as many people as possible to be a part of the Northern culture festival. The event is free and you can just turn up on the day.”
