A WARRINGTON businessman’s family was handcuffed and held captive while he was driven to his place of work and forced to hand over cash.
The 46-year-old called the police shortly after 2.20am this morning, after a large amount of cash was stolen from the garage premises in Catherine Street, Warrington.
Boiling water was poured over him during his ordeal.
But he sent police to attend to his partner and two daughters, aged 20 and 22, at their house on Moss Lane in Cadishead, before thinking of himself, according to detective.
It is believed about seven men burst into the man’s house at about midnight, armed with knives. They handcuffed the women and grabbed the man.
Some of the offenders took the man to his garage in Warrington in his own Range Rover.
After the robbery, the car was found burnt out in Widnes, in the early hours of the morning.
Officers have attended both scenes. The women at the house suffered minor cuts and bruises, and the man had a small cut to his leg and some burn marks on his chest.
The offenders are described as being men with Merseyside accents. They were dressed in dark clothing and balaclavas.
Detective Chief Inspector Bill McGreavy said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for all concerned. Luckily nobody was seriously hurt.
“We have now launched an intensive investigation, and I am grateful for the support that Cheshire Police are giving us.
“I am now appealing to anyone with any information to call us.”
Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 0161 856 5351 or call the confidential Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111.
