“Starter homes” approved above Bridge Street shop

PLANS for two apartments above a shop in Warrington’s town centre Bridge Street have been given the go-ahead by planning chiefs.

The two-bedroomed apartments will be on the first and second floors, with a separate access from the rear using a new steel staircase.
In addition there will be replacement shutter doors and a rear storage area for cycle and bins replacing an existing glass lean-to. The shop will remain unaltered.
The building is Locally Listed but is opposite a Listed building and there are several other Listed buildings in the same row. It is situated within the Bridge Street conservation area.
Applicant Kim Nguyun also proposes a general improvement of the building, carried out in sympathy with the conservation area.
Planning officers said the development will make a positive contribution to both the property and its location in the conservation area. It will also provide much needed starter homes in the town centre
