FORMER Mayor of Warrington Geoff Settle has been chosen to stand in the forthcoming Borough Council elections as the Green Party candidate for Poulton North.

The former Warrington Borough Council Labour councillor served Poulton North for six years and was Mayor of Warrington in 2015/16. He had a hip replacement two weeks ago but continues to look after his community by answering requests for help.
Lyndsay McAteer, leader of Warrington and Halton Green Party said: “Geoff hasn’t been sitting on his laurels. He has raised over 110 issues with the Council contact centre in recent years and all of them have been resolved. He is dedicated to serving people in his local area and to responding to their needs, particularly in light of the challenges caused by the pandemic.”
Geoff has also continued to chair and lead the Warrington Visually Impaired People; Warrington Nature Conservation Forum; and the Warrington BipolarUK Support Group, acting as a facilitator. He is also a member of the rule 6 party fighting the propose Peel Hall development.
The green lung of Warrington, Peel Hall, is a core issue for the Green Party which featured heavily in the 2019 General Election campaign. Geoff is an active campaigner to save Peel Hall. Geoff said: “Peel Hall is a classic case of a massive green issue. It aims to swamp the area and clog up highways with 1200 properties and something like another 800 by other developers.”
Lyndsay added:”Geoff has been a Green Party member for about 18 months. He brings a great deal of experience and knowledge to the role and we are lucky to have him onboard. He was Warrington’s Climate Change Champion, represented Warrington on the Mersey Forest Steering Committee and Mersey Gateway Environmental Trust and Vice-Chair of the Warrington Dial a Ride.”
Following his hip operation, Geoff is gaining strength and balance rapidly using the techniques learnt for recovery from injury as a member of Warrington Athletic Club. His is involved in park run and when he has been unable to run, he is cheering everybody on.
Geoff promises to put just as much effort into supporting the residents of Poulton North and renewing old acquaintances if elected in May.
